Historic Triangle Pre-Tour

Explore the nation’s beginnings, from the founding of America’s first permanent English colony 400 years ago to victory in the American Revolution, during a three-day trip to the “Historic Triangle” of Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. You’ll spend two nights at the Williamsburg Hospitality House, adjacent to the College of William and Mary and a short walk to restaurants, specialty shopping, and the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg, the restored 18th-century capital of colonial Virginia. Tour highlights include Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, Williamsburg Winery, Yorktown Victory Center, Yorktown Battlefield, Colonial Williamsburg, and Shirley Plantation. §

Join us for a leisurely trip back in time as we tour the Charlottesville/Piedmont region of Virginia. During your two-day journey you’ll explore Montpelier, the lifelong home of James Madison; Monticello, the extraordinary house Thomas Jefferson built and furnished; Virginia vineyards; and the historic Rotunda and Lawn at the University of Virginia. Both nights you will stay at the Omni Charlottesville Hotel, which is adjacent to the historic downtown pedestrian mall, home to a vibrant collection of more than 120 shops and 30 restaurants. The bus will return you to Richmond by 11 a.m. Tuesday. §
Tour Richmond Wednesday and Thursday

All tours on Wednesday include lunch in the Neon Room at the Valentine Richmond History Center, where you may then take a self-guided tour of the gallery areas. Through its collections and exhibits, the center has interpreted significant national events and personalities that reflect 400 years of Richmond Region history.

Gardens Galore!

Stroll Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, which features more than 40 acres of distinctive themed gardens and a conservatory with indoor displays of orchids and tropical plants. The Garden Shop offers extensive collection of garden accents. Next up is one of the Richmond’s region’s historic gems, Maymont. Numerous specialty gardens, including herb, daylily, cactus, and butterfly, along with exotic trees and shrubs adorn the 100-acre property. Alternatively, visit the opulent 33-room Victorian manor, built in 1896, and the carriage house.

Civil War Central

Richmond was capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War, 1860–1865, and therefore is rich in sites and information about this defining moment in American history. This tour takes you to the historic Tredegar Ironworks overlooking the James River, where you will find the new American Civil War Center presenting Union, Confederate, and African-American perspectives and the Richmond National Battlefield Park Visitor Center, which explains Richmond’s role in the war.

Spend the evening in one of the region’s newest upscale shopping centers. Stony Point Fashion Park offers high-end retail in an outdoor setting. Shops include Saks Fifth Avenue, Restoration Hardware, and Betsy Johnson. Dine at numerous restaurants, including P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Brio Tuscan Grille, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar.

The Capitol recently reopened after a major renovation and expansion, which includes a new visitor center, shop and café. Visitors revel in the rich history and charming stories of the Executive Mansion, the oldest, continuously occupied governor's residence in the United States. Today’s residents include Governor Tim Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, and their family.
